Resolved Question: What is the process to get child care expenses back?
Last year I contributed $2400 towards the child care reimbursement account because of which from every pay check there was a deduction of $100. My child was in a licensed day care and I paid well over $6500 to the day care facilities during the year.
Do you need to claim this money while filing taxes before 4/15? Do I need to get receipts from the day care facilities for all the money I paid them and then use that while preparing my taxes? Does that money then come back to me as a IRS refund? Please let me know. I plan to do my taxes myself and live in California.

Open Question: Company: LLC, C-Corp, Sorp - Taxes on Just Profits!?
I am currently working with a few CPA Networks. [NeverBueAds, Azoogle, Copeac]
I am doing around 1/k month now, and I don't know what I should do about Taxes. All that 1K of revenue is not pure profit, I also have expenses that are used to make that money, about 1K/month. I need to fill out a W-9 form before I could get my earnings. However, I just do it under my own name, as there is really nothing to worry about.
However, would I need to set up something, like a LLC or something, I feel I should only pay taxes in my profits and not on all revenue. So I would be writing off computers, internet, % of my home for office space, and then other things related to my Search Marketing process.
Thank you for any information you may have.

Resolved Question: If the other person is 100% liable in a car accident, will they fully cover a car rental?
I just had a car accident and I am pretty certain the other person was at fault. My car is currently sitting at a shop waiting for parts before repairs begin. So I am without a car and taking the bus.
I called the other person's insurance and they told me they will only cover a certain amount per day of a rental... but they did not mention liability as a factor. But when I talked to the adjuster from my own carrier, she told me the rental should be fully covered if the other person is liable for the accident.
I have full coverage.. I believe the other person does too.
So what I want to know is:
1.) Normally, does the liable insurance fully cover car rental expenses of the non-liable person?
2.) Will they cover it for all the time my car is undrivable... or only when my car is in the process of getting repaired? And will they fully cover rentals during the time period before liability is figured out?

Resolved Question: Can anyone tell me where I can find financial assistance for adoptions?
My wife and I recently adopted a new born baby girl after a very short adoption process and we ended up putting some of the expense on credit cards but we don't want to leave it there. Does anyone know of available grant money? It happened too fast for us to save but we'd rather have our baby than a savings account.
Thanks.
Wow, some people are kind of harsh here. I've gotta job. I paid for the process not the baby. If my wife and I could have concieved we would have. We both checked out ok it just couldn't happen without one of us becoming a major science experiment. We've paid most of our expenses already I was just curious. I'm not bummed at all so thanks for the wah wah comment but I wasn't trying to tell a sob story. If you're mad at me for asking this question go hug your own kids.

Instead of grant I should have said assistance. If you are hating on me and use your medical insurance then bite me. Insurance doesn't cover adoption expenses. I think more kids would have families who love them if the cost wasn't so great. Insurance is a form of welfare in a sense but it is necessary and if you can use it congratulations.
peace again
Specifically to Lillie,
There is a child tax credit and if you carry insurance that covers much of your expenses for breeding the old fashion way.
Hey adoptionissadnsick,
I feel like you have a dark story. I'm sorry to have offended you. What else do you do besides attack nice people?
Sunny,
Who's family do intend to preserve with your type of comments. I care not for what you say for your words will not bring clouds to my sunny day. ; )
I heard that there may be some assistance programs that is why I'm asking. I don't need the money this is only a question.

Resolved Question: Can we recoup legal costs?
My husband's ex-wife took us to court to change custody. She lied in her motion. She wanted full legal and physical custody of minor children. They share 50/50. We had to come up with 5k to start. We have spent over 5k. We went to court once and they never went before a judge. Nothing was changed except the days they have during the week. They agreed to a mediator 2 months ago. Ex-wife atty still has not responded to our atty about appt. All of our money has been soaked up with emails, phone calls, and re wording documents for the other party. We didn't start this process. Ex-wife is vindicitve. She has put us at a stale mate thus causing us to spend more money with our atty.
Can we sue ex-wife for a false suit? All she wanted accomplished was one child medicated for ADHD and she got that but at the expense of over 5k for us. We are in Mi. Can we tell our Atty to stop with contact to other parties atty so that no more costs are incurred? Thanks
We just feel this is a frivilous law suit. It has cost us over 5k. It has also hurt the kids. There wasn't any problems to begin with except my husband wanted to see for himself why his youngest needed to be put on meds. I don't know why people are allowed to bring this stuff in front of the court. Judges should see it for what it is and then dismiss it.

Here is the e-mail I was sent:
Thanks for your mail..I am from Williamsport Pa.I would love to meet up with you to talk about this job but I am currently away on business. I am in Australia so there will be no interview. However, I have to be sure you can handle this. I work in real estate. I will provide you access to a shopping card/giftcard to do my shopping and my UPS account for shipping. I will also have my mails and packages forwarded to your address. I don't need to do any shopping right now so all you have to do is stay at home( your home) and get my mails/packages and then mail them to where I want them mailed to. You don't have to put money out of your pocket all you have to do is have packages shipped to your house then have them picked back up by UPS. All expenses and taxes will be covered by me. Your job is to monitor and handle the process and report back to me. You will work less than 10 hours a month. How much will you charge per month? Are you ok with $350??

Voting Question: Question about child support modification through attorney general's office in Texas?
We received a letter today from the attorney general's office stating that his ex wife was requesting a review of child support. Now, before anyone goes off, they have 1 child, and he pays $750 a month, has possession about 45% of the time, they make more $ than we do, he has never been late on a payment, we pay for clothes and activities when she's with us, and take her to activities she signs her up for. My question is, What happens next. What is the process that the attorney general's office goes through, how long does it take, is there a way to fight it, and is it worth going to court for? Is it worth re-retaining our bad ass attorney for? Or, do we get screwed regardless. I know the formulas for figuring out support, she'll get more $ either way. He's a VERY involved dad, not a dead beat, and we have always paid for additional expenses not required by law, so please, no one go off about that either. Only factual, helpful answers needed. Experience is a plus! Thank you!

Resolved Question: Got Financial aid - FAFSA, but doesnt disburse for a few weeks. If I pay with CC will I get the whole check?
I received a FAFSA award for this semester at school. However, my award isnt getting disbursed for a few weeks. I need to pay for books and would like to pay for my tuition so I can use the on campus gym and medical care the tuition provides.
If I pay for this semesters fees with a credit card before I get my financial aid, will I get the complete award offer as a check in the mail? Or would this potentially harm the whole financial aid process? I know they usually send the leftover money after they automatically apply it to your school expenses... but I cant wait for books and health care!
Thanks so much

Voting Question: Looking for advice from those who have gone through probate for an inheritance.?
My father passed away 2 weeks ago. His mother had a stroke on the 2nd and I found out today that there is nothing more we can do but bring in hospice. Neither planned anything. No funeral arrangement, no will, no estate planning, nothing.
I hired an attorney to acquire emergency guardianship / conservatorships for both of them. My father passed away before we could secure it. It looks my grandmother will as well.
I am my father's only heir but will split my grandmother's estate with my cousin.
The insurance company is requiring me to hire an attorney as co-administrator of their estates. Any advice on the process of probate and any advice on minimizing expenses, attorney's fees, etc... would be really helpful.
I am really curious about how I am supposed to pay their bills when I don't have access to their bank accounts.

Resolved Question: What is the process for an unsecured creditor garnishing wages and will they actually bother?
My financial situation has changed damatically in the last 12 months and I'm am making approximately 1/4 of what I was in the past. I work solely on a commission basis so my income has been very irregular. My husband is employed but his net paycheck will only cover the mortgage. Not food, gas, car payments, etc. We owe on our home , which is in a homestead, 100% of what it is worth due to the declining market. We have been able to juggle the mortgage payments, car payments etc, but just barely getting way behind and then when I have a commission come in, we catch up for a while. We have a credit card with a large balance that we have been unable to pay (approximately $25,000.) They are threatening a law suit & wage garnishment. If they sue what is the process & what are the odds that a judge will allow a wage garnishment and how are the amounts of the garnishment determined? We have 2 children & daycare expense has prevented me from taking another job. Suggestions appreciated.

Voting Question: How can I go about claiming my funds?
My grandfather created a will and trust before he passed away which was in september 05. He passed away in october 05, and he didn't want to leave the trust to my mother, but he had no choice too since I was a minor at the time. He left the estate to my mother and myself (minor beneficiary) and he left us both inheritance checks, which had $15,000 but it was divided in to 2 for both my mom and myself, but she forged my name on my inheritance checks to pay for her own expense and left me with about $500. I turned 18 on may 07, and she put the house up for sale in nov 07, now it's sold and we are in the moving process. Since I am 18, aren't I entitled to half of the proceeds? My mom doesn't really care about me and could careless if I'm homeless. How can I go about claiming my funds?

Resolved Question: what dou you think of HR-1955?
look up HR-1955 then read this. by the way this is REAL.
Remarks on Violent Radicalization & Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, HR 1955
5 December 2007
Rep. Ron Paul, M.D.
Madame Speaker, I regret that I was unavoidably out of town on October 23, 2007, when a vote was taken on HR 1955, the Violent Radicalization & Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act. Had I been able to vote, I would have voted against this misguided and dangerous piece of legislation. This legislation focuses the weight of the US government inward toward its own citizens under the guise of protecting us against âœviolent radicalization.â
I would like to note that this legislation was brought to the floor for a vote under suspension of regular order. These so-called âœsuspensionâ bills are meant to be non-controversial, thereby negating the need for the more complete and open debate allowed under regular order. It is difficult for me to believe that none of my colleagues in Congress view HR 1955, with its troubling civil liberties implications, as âœnon-controversial.â
There are many causes for concern in HR 1955. The legislation specifically singles out the Internet for âœfacilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism processâ in the United States. Such language may well be the first step toward US government regulation of what we are allowed to access on the Internet. Are we, for our own good, to be subjected to the kind of governmental control of the Internet that we see in unfree societies? This bill certainly sets us on that course.
This seems to be an unwise and dangerous solution in search of a real problem. Previous acts of ideologically-motivated violence, though rare, have been resolved successfully using law enforcement techniques, existing laws against violence, and our court system. Even if there were a surge of âœviolent radicalizationâ -- a claim for which there is no evidence -- there is no reason to believe that our criminal justice system is so flawed and weak as to be incapable of trying and punishing those who perpetrate violent acts.
This legislation will set up a new government bureaucracy to monitor and further study the as-yet undemonstrated pressing problem of homegrown terrorism and radicalization. It will no doubt prove to be another bureaucracy that artificially inflates problems so as to guarantee its future existence and funding. But it may do so at great further expense to our civil liberties. What disturbs me most about this legislation is that it leaves the door wide open for the broadest definition of what constitutes âœradicalization.â Could otherwise non-violent anti-tax, antiwar, or anti-abortion groups fall under the watchful eye of this new government commission? Assurances otherwise in this legislation are unconvincing.
In addition, this legislation will create a Department of Homeland Security-established university-based body to further study radicalization and to âœcontribute to the establishment of training, written materials, information, analytical assistance and professional resources to aid in combating violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism.â I wonder whether this is really a legitimate role for institutes of higher learning in a free society.
Legislation such as this demands heavy-handed governmental action against American citizens where no crime has been committed. It is yet another attack on our Constitutionally-protected civil liberties. It is my sincere hope that we will reject such approaches to security, which will fail at their stated goal at a great cost to our way of life.

Resolved Question: What is capital?
Henrietta O'Leary was a pioneer in the Old West. Her husband died on the journey from Pennsylvania to Colorado. When Henrietta arrived in Denver, she opened a business that sold wheel axles to other pioneers. To set up the business, she borrowed $100 to build a small factory with a store attached to it. She hired two woodworkers and a manager to run the store. Her other primary expenses included the wood used to make the axles, the metal tools woodworkers used in the axle-making process, and a $10 yearly interest payment on the $100 loan.
2.2. Once the business was established, Henrietta was able to let it run itself. She moved to San Francisco and received a $500 check each year representing the profits from her business.
Which of the following are considered by economists to be "capital"?
I. The factory
II. The trees used to produce the axles
III. The metal tools used to produce the axles
IV. The original $100 loan
V. The $500 received by Henrietta in San Francisc

Resolved Question: Einstein & God....does this sound like he believes in "God"?
For all who said Einstein believed in God please read the following quotes, Einstein believed in higher power and higher knowledge....Albert Einstein Quotes on Philosophy of Religion, Theology, God
The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. (Albert Einstein)
It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. (Albert Einstein, 1954, The Human Side, edited by Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, Princeton University Press)
Scientific research is based on the idea that everything that takes place is determined by laws of nature, and therefore this holds for the action of people. For this reason, a research scientist will hardly be inclined to believe that events could be influenced by a prayer, i.e. by a wish addressed to a Supernatural Being.
(Albert Einstein, 1936, The Human Side. Responding to a child who wrote and asked if scientists pray.)
A man's ethical behaviour should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.
(Albert Einstein, "Religion and Science", New York Times Magazine, 9 November 1930)
I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egoism, cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and with the awareness and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in nature. (Albert Einstein, The World as I See It)
I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms.
(Albert Einstein, Obituary in New York Times, 19 April 1955)
I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings.
(Albert Einstein, responding to Rabbi Herbert Goldstein who had sent Einstein a cablegram bluntly demanding "Do you believe in God?" Quoted from Victor J. Stenger, Has Science Found God? 2001, chapter 3.)
One strength of the Communist system ... is that it has some of the characteristics of a religion and inspires the emotions of a religion.
(Albert Einstein, Out Of My Later Years, 1950)
http://www.positiveatheism.org/hist/quot...
I cannot conceive of a personal God who would directly influence the actions of individuals, or would directly sit in judgment on creatures of his own creation. I cannot do this in spite of the fact that mechanistic causality has, to a certain extent, been placed in doubt by modern science. [He was speaking of Quantum Mechanics and the breaking down of determinism.] My religiosity consists in a humble admiration of the infinitely superior spirit that reveals itself in the little that we, with our weak and transitory understanding, can comprehend of reality. Morality is of the highest importance -- but for us, not for God. (Albert Einstein,The Human Side, edited by Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, Princeton University Press)
If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed. (Albert Einstein)
The idea of a personal God is an anthropological concept which I am unable to take seriously. (Albert Einstein, Letter to Hoffman and Dukas, 1946)
The foundation of morality should not be made dependent on myth nor tied to any authority lest doubt about the myth or about the legitimacy of the authority imperil the foundation of sound judgment and action. (Albert Einstein)
I do not believe in immortality of the individual, and I consider ethics to be an exclusively human concern with no superhuman authority behind it. (Albert Einstein, The Human Side)
I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being. (Albert Einstein)
What I see in Nature is a magnificent structure that we can comprehend only very imperfectly, and that must fill a thinking person with a feeling of "humility." This is a genuinely religious feeling that has nothing to do with mysticism. (Albert Einstein)
The mystical trend of our time, which shows itself particularly in the rampant growth of the so-called Theosophy and Spiritualism, is for me no more than a symptom of weakness and confusion. Since our inner experiences consist of reproductions, and combinations of sensory impressions, the concept of a soul without a body seem to me to be empty and devoid of meaning. (Albert Einstein)

Introduction - Albert Einstein Philosophy of Religion / Theology Quotes - Science vs. Religion - Einstein on Jews & Anti-Semitism - Top of Page
Albert Einstein Theology- A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. Albert Einstein on Science vs Religion
Einstein observed that specialization is invariably damaging to Science as a whole;
The area of scientific knowledge has been enormously extended, and theoretical knowledge has become vastly more profound in every department of science. But the assimilative power of the human intellect is and remains strictly limited. Hence it was inevitable that the activity of the individual investigator should be confined to a smaller and smaller section of human knowledge. Worse still, this specialization makes it increasingly difficult to keep even our general understanding of science as a whole, without which the true spirit of research is inevitably handicapped, in step with scientific progress. Every serious scientific worker is painfully conscious of this involuntary relegation to an ever-narrowing sphere of knowledge, which threatens to deprive the investigator of his broad horizon and degrades him to the level of a mechanic ...
It is just as important to make knowledge live and to keep it alive as to solve specific problems. (Albert Einstein, 1954)
Scientific research is based on the idea that everything that takes place is determined by laws of nature, and therefore this holds for the action of people. (Albert Einstein, 1954)
The individual feels the futility of human desires and aims and the sublimity and marvelous order which reveal themselves both in nature and in the world of thought. Individual existence impresses him as a sort of prison and he wants to experience the universe as a single significant whole. The beginnings of cosmic religious feeling already appear at an early stage of development, e.g., in many of the Psalms of David and in some of the Prophets. Buddhism, as we have learned especially from the wonderful writings of Schopenhauer, contains a much stronger element of this. (Albert Einstein, 1930)
The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description .. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. (Albert Einstein)
In my view, it is the most important function of art and science to awaken this religious feeling and keep it alive in those who are receptive to it. (Albert Einstein, 1930)
Science has therefore been charged with undermining morality, but the charge is unjust. A man's ethical behaviour should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death. (Albert Einstein, 1930)
There is nothing divine about morality; it is a purely human affair. (Albert Einstein, 1934)
For the scientific method can teach us nothing else beyond how facts are related to, and conditioned by, each other. The aspiration toward such objective knowledge belongs to the highest of which man is capable, and you will certainly not suspect me of wishing to belittle the achievements and the heroic efforts of man in this sphere. Yet is equally clear that knowledge of what is does not open the door directly to what should be. One can have the clearest and most complete knowledge of what is , and yet not be able to deduct from that what should be the goal of our human aspirations. Objective knowledge provides us with powerful instruments for the achievements of certain ends, but the ultimate goal itself and the longing to reach it must come from another source. And it is hardly necessary to argue for the view that our existence and our activity acquire meaning only by the setting up of such a goal and of corresponding values. (Albert Einstein, 1939)
To make clear these fundamental ends and valuations, and to set them fast in the emotional life of the individual, seems to me precisely the most important function which religion has to perform in the social life of man. And if one asks whence derives the authority of such fundamental ends, since they cannot be stated and justified merely by reason, one can only answer: they exist in a healthy society as powerful traditions, which act upon the conduct and aspirations and judgments of the individuals; they are there, that is, as something living, without its being necessary to find justification for their existence. (Albert Einstein, 1939)
.. free and responsible development of the individual, so that he may place his powers freely and gladly in the service of all mankind. There is no room in this for the divinization of a nation, of a class, let alone of an individual. Are we not all children of one father, as it is said in religious language? (Albert Einstein, 1939)
If one holds these high principles clearly before one's eyes, and compares them with the life and spirit of our times, then it appears glaringly that civilized mankind finds itself at present in grave danger. In the totalitarian states it is the rulers themselves who strive actually to destroy that spirit of humanity. In less threatened parts it is nationalism and intolerance, as well as the oppression of the individuals by economic means, which threaten to choke these most precious traditions. (Einstein, 1954. p43-4)
But if the longing for the achievement of the goal is powerfully alive within us, then shall we not lack the strength to find the means for reaching the goal and for translating it into deeds. (Albert Einstein, 1939)
For science can only ascertain what is, but not what should be, and outside of its domain value judgments of all kinds remain necessary. Religion, on the other hand, deals only with evaluations of human thought and action: it cannot justifiably speak of facts and relationships between facts. According to this interpretation the well-known conflicts between religion and science in the past must all be ascribed to a misapprehension of the situation which has been described.
For example, a conflict arises when a religious community insists on the absolute truthfulness of all statements recorded in the Bible. This means an intervention on the part of religion into the sphere of science; this is where the struggle of the Church against doctrines of Galileo and Darwin belongs. On the other hand, representatives of science have often made an attempt to arrive at fundamental judgments with respect to values and ends on the basis of scientific method, and in this way have set themselves in opposition to religion. These conflicts have all sprung from fatal errors. (Albert Einstein, 1941)
But science can only be created by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration toward truth and understanding. This source of feeling, however, springs from the sphere of religion. To this there also belongs the faith in the possibility that the regulations valid for the world of existence are rational, that is, comprehensible to reason. I cannot conceive of a genuine scientist without that profound faith. The situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. (Albert Einstein, 1941)
Though I have asserted above that in truth a legitimate conflict between religion and science cannot exist, I must nevertheless qualify this assertion once again on an essential point, with reference to the actual content of historical religions. This qualification has to do with the concept of God. During the youthful period of mankind's spiritual evolution human fantasy created gods in man's own image, who, by the operations of their will were supposed to determine, or at any rate to influence, the phenomenal world. Man sought to alter the disposition of these gods in his own favour by means of magic and prayer. The idea of God in the religions taught at present is a sublimation of that old concept of the gods. Its anthropomorphic character is shown, for instance, by the fact that men appeal to the Divine Being in prayers and plead for the fulfillment of their wishes.
Nobody, certainly, will deny that the idea of the existence of an omnipotent, just, and omni beneficent personal God is able to accord man solace, help, and guidance; also, by virtue of its simplicity it is accessible to the most undeveloped mind. But, on the other hand, there are decisive weaknesses attached to this idea in itself, which have been painfully felt since the beginning of history. (Albert Einstein, 1941)
For a doctrine which is able to maintain itself not in clear light but only in the dark, will of necessity lose its effect on mankind, with incalculable harm to human progress. In their struggle for the ethical good, teachers of religion must have the stature to give up the doctrine of a personal God, that is, give up that source of fear and hope which in the past placed such vast power in the hands of priests. In their labours they will have to avail themselves of those forces which are capable of cultivating the Good, the True, and the Beautiful in humanity itself. This is, to be sure, a more difficult but an incomparably more worthy task. After religious teachers accomplish the refining process indicated they well surely recognise with joy that true religion has been ennobled and made more profound by scientific knowledge.
If it is one of the goals of religion to liberate mankind as far as possible from the bondage of egocentric cravings, desires and fears, scientific reasoning can aid religion in yet another sense. Although it is true that it is the goal of science to discover rules which permit the association and foretelling of facts, this is not its only aim. It also seeks to reduce the connections discovered to the smallest possible number of mutually independent conceptual elements. (Albert Einstein, 1941)
By way of the understanding he achieves a far-reaching emancipation from the shackles of personal hopes and desires, and thereby attains that humble attitude of mind toward the grandeur of reason incarnate in existence, and which, in its profoundest depths, is inaccessible to man. This attitude, however, appears to me to be religious, in the highest sense of the word. And so it seems to me that science not only purifies the religious impulse of the dross of its anthropomorphism but also contributes to a religious spiritualization of our understanding of life.
The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge. (Albert Einstein, 1941)
Religion and Science: Irreconcilable?
As to science, we may well define it for our purpose as "methodical thinking directed toward finding regulative connections between our sensual experiences". (Albert Einstein, 1948)
While it is true that science, to the extent of its grasp of causative connections, may reach important conclusions as to the compatibility and incompatibility of goals and evaluations, the independent and fundamental definitions regarding goals and values remain beyond science's reach. (Albert Einstein, 1948)
Religion is concerned with man's attitude towards nature at large, with the establishing of ideals for the individual and communal life, and with human mutual relationship. These ideals religion attempts to attain by exerting an educational influence on tradition and through the development and promulgation of certain easily accessible thoughts and narratives (epics and myths) which are apt to influence evaluation and action along the lines of accepted ideals.
It is this mythical, or rather symbolic, content of the religious traditions which is likely to come into conflict with science. This occurs whenever this religious stock of ideas contains dogmatically fixed statements on subjects which belong in the domain of science. (Albert Einstein, 1948)
For the moral attitudes of a people that is supported by religion need always aim at preserving and promoting the sanity and vitality of the community and its individuals, since otherwise this community is bound to perish. A people that were to honour falsehood, defamation, fraud, and murder would be unable, indeed, to subsist for very long. (Albert Einstein, 1948)
When considering the actual living conditions of present day civilised humanity from the standpoint of even the most elementary religious commands, one is bound to experience a feeling of deep and painful disappointment at what one sees. For while religion prescribes brotherly love in the relations among the individuals and groups, the actual spectacle more resembles a battlefield than an orchestra. Everywhere, in economic as well as in political life, the guiding principle is one of ruthless striving for success at the expense of one's fellow men. This competitive spirit prevails even in the school and, destroying all feelings of human fraternity and cooperation, conceives of achievement not as derived from the love for productive and thoughtful work, but as springing from personal ambition and fear of rejection.
There are pessimists who hold that such a state of affairs is necessarily inherent in human nature; it is those who propound such views that are the enemies of true religion, for they imply thereby that the religious teachings are utopian ideals and are unsuited to afford guidance in human affairs. (Albert Einstein, 1948)

Albert Einstein Theology- A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. Albert Einstein on Jewish Religion
Anti-Semitism and Academic Youth
It is clear also that "serving God" was equated with "serving the living". The best of the Jewish people, especially the Prophets and Jesus, contended tirelessly for this.
Judaism is thus no transcendental religion; it is concerned with life as we live it and as we can, to a certain extent, grasp it, and nothing else. It seems to me, therefore, doubtful whether it can be called a religion in the accepted sense of the word, particularly as no "faith" but the sanctification of life in a supra-personal sense is demanded of the Jew.
But the Jewish tradition also contains something else, something which finds splendid expression in many of the Psalms, namely, a sort of intoxicated joy and amazement at the beauty and grandeur of this world, of which man can form just a faint notion. This joy is the feeling from which true scientific research draws its spiritual sustenance, but which also seems to find expression in the song of birds. To tack this feeling to the idea of God seems mere childish absurdity. (Albert Einstein, 1934)
In this case, as in many mental disorders, the cure lies in a clear knowledge of one's condition and its causes. We must be conscious of our alien race and draw the logical conclusions from it. It is no use trying to convince the others of our spiritual and intellectual equality by arguments addressed to the reason, when the attitude of these others does not originate in their intellects at all. (Albert Einstein, 1934)

Resolved Question: How can you be concerned with health care costs and vote for an injury lawyer?
The USA is the ONLY country in the world that does not use the English court system where civil trials are settled by the losing party paying the legal expenses to the winning party. This means if you are sued in a frivolous law suit, the plaintiff has to reimburse you for the horrendous damage they did by filing a frivolous law suit.
Guess what? Only the USA is constipated with more trials and law suits, way beyond our capacity. Our entire lives are so litigous, everyone is worried about law suits, in every facet of our lives.
The country desparately needs tort reform and John Edwards, the trial lawyer predator, is running for President & he has the gall to scream about health care costs! Huh? Trial lawyers are an integral part of the problem. They cause health care cost to sky-rocket.
If anyone had any commitment to curbing health care costs, injury lawyers would be included in the process.
Did anyone but me notice that Michael Moore gave trial lawyers a pass?

Voting Question: My company did a horrible job of processing my full and final when I left the org. Can I slap a lawsuit?
This is a huge multinational and I worked for them for a year and a half in India. I moved back to the US in August and quit the company in October. It's been four months and they have not processed my full and final until just couple weeks ago. Even after processing it, I haven't gotten paid correctly and I am working with them on this. Are they liable for the cost and frustration I am facing? I even made a trip to India for a week to get this sorted but nothing came out of it. I want them to pay for my trip and expenses. Are they liable? Can I slap a lawsuit?

Resolved Question: TCF Card Authorization on transaction and activity page?
I ordered something from a merchant on 12/30/07 and canceled the order hours afterward. I used my TCF Debit Card to make the purchase and on the transaction and activity page it still shows the Card Authorization still pending and the amount deducted today, 1/2/08. The website I ordered from confirms on its cancelation page that my card was not processed and I will not be charged. I was wondering how long would it take for TCF to put the expenses back into my account? It seems like it should've been done already. Should I call TCF customer support and can they do it manually for me?
I also would like to add that I ordered something from another website and it has been shipped, but on my transactions it is also shown as pending. I'm pretty sure a company would charge me before shipping me an item.

Hello ppl! I am in the process of applying to a few USA universities for my undergraduation. I did pretty well on my Toefl , achieved a very decent score on the SAT's and my grades aren't that bad either. So admission shouldn't be much of a problem i believe.
But I would like to know that how much could I earn working on a student visa ? Besides are part-time jobs hard to get or easily available ? Also how much would my monthly personal expenses be worth given that i do not lead a very extravagant life ? Any help would be appreciated though i only welcome sensible suggestions/opinions.

Resolved Question: Do you think that major closures of the UK rail network are justifiable over Christmas?
Personally I think is a disgrace that Network Rail can even imagine the Christmas period is a suitable time to undertake major engineering works. In my opinion the closure of Liverpool Street and the Wet Cost line at Rugby in this period is simply unethical behaviour. The rail system is to serve the public, the public need railways at Christmas. They may not have the commuter numbers, but have lots of people are needing to move around the country to be with family or friends and this needs to be factored into the thinking process of whoever makes these decisions. To even contemplate large scale closures at any time should be a last resort, since the work should be carried out without the closure, if possible, even if it means more expense (which it always used to be in the days of British Rail). However if absolutely necessary then Christmas is the least appropriate time of year to choose for major closure.

I simply can't believe how many roll over and die people seem to be on here! Personally I think that what has happened this year has not and can not be justified on any grounds other than cost and that Network Rail's actions are totally unacceptable. The Christmas holiday period is not a suitable time to make major clauses and I urge people to make this clear to Network Rail, not just accept their propaganda. Whatâ™s happened to the fighting sprit in the British public?

Resolved Question: filing 2007 tax returns?
I just want to make sure I understand everything regarding the AMT. You can file/get refund in mid Jan. if you DON'T use one of the following 5 forms (Education Credits, Residential Energy Credits, Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Form 1040A Filers, Mortgage Interest Credit, District of Columbia First-Time Homebuyer Credit). If you DO use one of those, they expect to be able to process those around Feb. 11.
Am I correct?
Regarding the child care expense, is that the form for when you pay for child care (day care) and can get reimbursed some of it?
I normally do my taxes on the first day they accept them, but since I have 2 children in daycare, I think this means I have to wait......right?

Resolved Question: Anyone have any experience with military divorce process? what is best scenario?
My husband is determined to get divorce when he returns from Iraq because he 'fell out of love with me' he has said.
I have 1 child, and quit my job to take care of baby full time.
Witht hat said, when he returns, we are going to get a divorce.
We rent a home, he is lease holder.
My attorney Paralegal ha said, I should stay where I am at,
and during the divorce process my husband will have to pay all housing expenses, which means I wil get to stay in the house with our baby, and drive our not yet fully paid car I have been driving (we have 2 cars)
If I move, they might not be able to get him to keep to these obligations.
But if I stay, he has to pay for his dependants expenses.
All the while, he will be forced to move into the barracks
IS THIS TRUE?
Or should I just move back home (out of state) and he wont have to support his wife and child thorugh the divorce process.
Can someone clear this up for me please.

I am not affected by any of the forms that are included in the delay of processing tax returns (Form 8863, Education Credits
Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits
Schedule 2, Form 1040A, Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Form 1040A Filers
Form 8396, Mortgage Interest Credit
Form 8859, District of Columbia First-Time Homebuyer Credit) So will the IRS still wait until Feb. 11 to process my tax returns? The only reason I'm courious is we are leaving to go to Disney World on Jan. 18 and even though we have plenty of spending money, it would be nice to have that extra chunk of change to take with us so we could do even more for the kids
Well we use the RAL because I have "deductions" that cover those cost. The $230 in self prep and ral fees don't really matter since we get back between $6-7k. And with Tax Brain, they save our employers information and our morgage companys info so we use our last statements from the morgage company and our last check stubs of the year because they have all the information we need to fill out the form that requires our w-2 information.
And by the way, thank you to everyone for the rapid response to my question.

President Signs AMT Patch
On December 26, President Bush signed the Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2007 [HR 3996]. The legislation was passed to prevent an estimated 25 million taxpayers from becoming subject to AMT. The Act increases the AMT exemption amount for 2007 to $66,250 for married individuals filing jointly and surviving spouses, $44,350 for single taxpayers and taxpayers filing as heads of households, and $33,125 for married couples filing separately. The new law allows taxpayers to use most nonrefundable personal tax credits to offset AMT liability.
Now that the AMT patch has been signed into law, the big question is how the late timing of this change will impact the upcoming filing season. - The IRS just announced that for most taxpayers, the late passage will not impact their ability to file early in the season, beginning in mid-January. However, approximately 3 to 4 million taxpayers will be impacted and will not be able to file until February 11. The delay is the result of the system programming changes that need to be made at IRS to process returns that have any of the following forms to submit with their return:
1. Form 8863, Education Credits.
2. Form 5695, Residential Energy Credits.
3. Form 1040A's Schedule 2, Child and Dependent Care Expenses for Form 1040A filers.
4. Form 8396, Mortgage Interest Credit.
5. Form 8859, District of Columbia First-Time Homebuyer Credit.

Resolved Question: Landlords Responsibility or Renters Responsibility?
My partner and I are in the process of moving out of a new townhouse/rental. The landlord had done a pre-walkthrough of the town home and thinks that all looks good except for the black ceramic stovetop. She says that the marks on the stovetop and the pivots are not normal wear and tear and that it was neglect (she is very cheap). We however disagree with her.
She then went to GE and they told her that if the wrong cookware were used on the stovetop then it would scratch it. I confirmed that we indeed have the correct cookware for the range and that the incorrect cookware was never used.
She said that we might have to end up replacing the stovetop and our expense due to the damage that we caused while renting. She said that she gave us all the manuals to the appliance that clearly states what pans to use and what not to use.
Do you think this is fair? Sounds like to me she wants a free stovetop. What do you think?
